While President Barack Obama is fighting for re-election, the U.S. first lady Michelle Obama has recently published her first book, “American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America“.
As a mother, Michelle Obama tries to feed her two daughters healthy food. She started planting the first kitchen garden at the White House’s South Lawn, and then adding more fruits and vegetables. The garden sprouted new conversation all across the country about healthy food’s impact on our families and children. Mrs. Obama does not only share her experience as a novice gardener, but also stories of other community gardens across the nation that have moved and inspired her.
In February 2010, Michelle Obama launched “Let’s Move!”. It is an initiative to address the epidemic of childhood obesity nationwide by introducing healthier food into school and communities, as well as encouraging kids to be more active. The author proceeds of the American Grown will be donated to the National Park Foundation.
